Persistent current by a static non-Hermitian ratchet

چکیده

We propose a scheme to generate persistent current in driven-dissipative systems which can be described by the generalized Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation. Our proposal consists of fabricating rachet-potential shape loss-rate profile, simultaneously breaks time-reversal symmetry and parity-inversion symmetry. Unlike existing schemes using rachet potential Hermitian systems, no dynamic drive is needed. The basic physics our discussed simple discrete GP model, results are also verified realistic continuous model. Furthermore, we demonstrate experimental feasibility exciton-polariton condensates semiconductor microcavity.

Nonsinusoidal current and current reversals in a gating ratchet.

In this work, the ratchet dynamics of Brownian particles driven by an external sinusoidal (harmonic) force is investigated. The gating ratchet effect is observed when another harmonic is used to modulate the spatially symmetric potential in which the particles move. For small amplitudes of the harmonics, it is shown that the current (average velocity) of particles exhibits a sinusoidal shape as...

Symmetries of the ratchet current.

Recent advances in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics shed new light on the ratchet effect. The ratchet motion can thus be understood in terms of symmetry (breaking) considerations. We introduce an additional symmetry operation besides time reversal, that switches between two modes of operation. That mode reversal combined with time reversal decomposes the nonequilibrium action so as to clari...

Efficiency of the SQUID ratchet driven by external current

We study theoretically the efficiency of an asymmetric superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)which is constructed as a loopwith three capacitively and resistively shunted Josephson junctions. Two junctions are placed in series in one arm and the remaining one is located in the other arm. The SQUID is threaded by an externalmagnetic flux and driven by an external current of both con...

Gauging non-Hermitian Hamiltonians

We address the problem of coupling non-Hermitian systems, treated as fundamental rather than effective theories, to the electromagnetic field. In such theories the observables are not the x and p appearing in the Hamiltonian, but quantities X and P constructed by means of the metric operator. Following the analogous procedure of gauging a global symmetry in Hermitian quantum mechanics we find t...

Non-hermitian quantum thermodynamics.

Thermodynamics is the phenomenological theory of heat and work. Here we analyze to what extent quantum thermodynamic relations are immune to the underlying mathematical formulation of quantum mechanics. As a main result, we show that the Jarzynski equality holds true for all non-hermitian quantum systems with real spectrum. This equality expresses the second law of thermodynamics for isothermal...
